Woodhouse(Las Vegas) - Today, the Nevada Conservation League endorsed Joyce Woodhouse for the Nevada State Senate.   Citing her "dedication to service," the organization endorsed Woodhouse "for demonstrating a shared vision of our conservation values."  Senator Joyce Woodhouse (Clark, District 5) is seeking re-election to represent the greater Henderson area for a second term in the State Senate.

Joyce Woodhouse has been a leader in Nevada's conservation efforts.   In 2009, she co-sponsored the Green Jobs Initiative, which leveraged federal dollars to train Nevada's workers for jobs in the New Green Economy.   That same session, Woodhouse also co-sponsored the most comprehensive piece of renewable energy legislation, SB 358. Woodhouse believes the first step to building a better future for all of Nevada starts at home.  As a result, she supported legislation that requires our school districts to use environmentally sensitive cleaning products.

"Joyce Woodhouse has made the protection of Nevada's air, land, water, and wildlife a top priority.  Her leadership in the last four years for the environment and Nevada has been exemplary," said Scot Rutledge, Executive Director of the Nevada Conservation League.  "Senator Woodhouse has taken personal responsibility in ensuring that Nevada's environment is protected for generations to come."

"We have a unique opportunity to put Nevadans back to work and create a cleaner Nevada for our children. Investing in a 'Green Job' economy is a two for one - we will create a more stable economy and we will invest in making the planet cleaner and safer for a brighter future," said Senator Woodhouse.   "I believe that it is our moral responsibility to leave this state, and planet, in better shape than we found it and investing in conservation priorities is an enormous step toward making that a reality.   I have immense respect for the Nevada Conservation League and the work they do, and I am humbled by this endorsement."

Joyce Woodhouse brings a lifelong commitment to public education to the Nevada Senate, where she has established herself as a powerful advocate for Nevada's children and schools.

Joyce served as the Director of the School-Community Partnership Program for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas from 1989 to 2006, when she was elected to the Nevada State Senate. In her role as the liaison between the school district and the business community, Joyce brought together resources, secured financial commitments and facilitated cooperative activities to enhance the education of students. As a result of Joyce's guidance and dedication, the Partnership Program grew to over 600 programs for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.   In the 2009 Legislative Session, Joyce served as the chair of the Legislative Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections, member of the Senate Finance Committee and vice-chair of the Legislative Committee on Health and Education.  Currently, Woodhouse serves as the chair of the Legislative Committee on Education.
